Veterinary Externship Program

Tennessee Equine Hospital values student's development in veterinary medicine. The Externship Program exposes students to all aspects of equine practice including lameness, internal medicine, reproduction, pediatrics, elective and emergency surgery. Tennessee Equine Hospital offers a 2-3 week externship to veterinary students year round and will provide housing accommodations on site. The Externship Housing can accommodate up to 4 students.

Students who enter the Externship Program are expected to assist the attending doctor or intern with management of hospitalized or out-patient horses including overnight care of critical cases and assistance with emergency surgeries. The students will also be exposed to all aspects of equine ambulatory medicine, and are allowed to participate in the treatment of cases based upon the individual’s knowledge base and level of experience.
