From humble beginnings as an ambulatory practice, Tennessee Equine Hospital has grown to a team of over 20 full-time veterinarians, including certified specialists in surgery and internal medicine. Serving the Middle Tennessee horse community since 1991, the practice moved to its current referral facility in Thompson’s Station in 1998. In 2008, the facility expanded to include surgical, diagnostic imaging, reproduction, and isolation facilities, along with lameness and outpatient services.
In 2014, Tennessee Equine Hospital opened a second locationm Tennessee Equine Hospital West in Eads, Tennessee, a 24/7 urgent care diagnostic clinic serving horses in West Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
In 2019, Dr. Matthew Lovell of Lovell Equine Clinic in Gallatin, Tennessee, and Dr. David Dunlap of North Alabama Equine in Harvest, Alabama, partnered with Tennessee Equine Hospital to establish our North and South locations. Tennessee Equine Hospital North serves Northern Tennessee and Southern Kentucky, while Tennessee Equine Hospital South serves Southern Tennessee and Northern Alabama, both as 24/7 urgent care and outpatient clinics.
In 2024, Richard Wilhelm of Wilhelm Equine Services in Shelbyville, Tennessee, joined the team to form Tennessee Equine Hospital East.
Today, our hub-and-spoke model — four urgent care clinics and a central referral hospital in Thompson’s Station — reflects our commitment to providing comprehensive, around-the-clock equine care across the region.
